Critical Access Hospitals and Networks
All Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) are part of a rural health network. In applying for certification, a CAH must must submit a plan to the Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and this plan must stipulate a Supporting Hospital and the rural network to which the CAH will belong. These plans describe agreements between the CAH and the Supporting Hospital regarding patient referral and transfer, the provision of emergency and non-emergency transportation among members, and medical staff credentialing, risk management, quality assurance and peer review.
Via Christi Hospitals Wichita, Wichita, KS, is the Supporting Hospital for the Wheat Plains Health Network (WPHN).
